Border Ministries

Though the beauty and warm culture of Mexico is well known, so is the poverty. Hunger is an everyday experience for many. In response to God’s commands to love thy neighbor and care for the poorest among us, for over 10 years we have regularly brought a small team of volunteers to Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico. We bring breakfast, friendship and the love of Christ to children, families and the abandoned disabled.

The second Saturday of each month is our service day which includes visits to four different locations in Baja, Mexico. One of these is Carretas, a barrio near the old Tijuana dump. We have helped build a community center to feed and care for the neighborhood kids. We also visit El Camino Vivo, a church in Tijuana and another church in Rosarito pastored by Enrique Marquez.  At these three locations, we minister to children and their families while providing a pancake breakfast.  All in all, we feed 150-200 children every month.  The kids also make and take home a Christian craft as they hear God’s word!  The last location is El Refugio, where our team feeds and visits with about 180 abandoned, disabled elderly at this home for people whose families cannot afford to care for them.  El Refugio is an overcrowded facility sustained only by donations and volunteers. This is a ministry of Solana Beach Church.

Every Tuesday, some of our team head down to Campo de Fe, which is a home for disabled or terminally ill men who are without family or any other form of support. The home is run by Flor, a wonderful Christian woman with a heart for all God’s children. We help provide nursing care, clothing, comfort, companionship and share a meal. If you want to learn more about the ministry to Campo de Fe contact Lesley Sagar.
