Hope Church Memphis partners with ARISE 2 Read and Memphis Shelby County Schools each school year to provide the Team Read program to 2nd grade students in an effort to improve literacy rates in Memphis. ARISE 2 Read trains volunteers to tutor students using the proven Team Read method. This approach teaches foundational words and provides the personalized reading support students need to read at grade level by 3rd grade. Hope has made ARISE 2 Read a top priority because the statistics are alarming. 39% of the children in Memphis live in poverty and are, on average, three grade levels behind their more affluent peers in reading.
